Special EventsSpecial ExhibitIHQS is delighted to present The Pilgrim/Roy Invitational Quilt Challenge, named for Gerald E. Roy and the late Paul D. Pilgrim. This is an annual quilt challenge sponsored by Hancock’s of Paducah and Hobbs Bonded Fibers. Promising new and nationally known quiltmakers are selected by Gerald E. Roy to participate in the annual challenge. Using only donated fabrics by the challenge’s sponsors, quiltmakers create unique and engaging wall quilts. Participants include: Charlotte Angotti, Georgia Bonesteel, Karin Boutte, Elsie Campbell, Linda Carlson, Sharyn Craig, Jenny Raymond, Karen Stone and Pat Yamin. WorkshopsAre you a traditional quilter or is your passion contemporary work? Do you want to learn something new or improve your favorite techniques? Whatever your interest, we have the class for you. Study with our eight internationally renowned instructors who offer classes in a variety of techniques. Meet some of the country’s most talented and creative uilters. Our classes fill quickly, so send in your registration today! We’ll see you in class. Entry to show included when you sign up for a workshop. Extended Merchants AreaAdditional merchants have been added to our Merchant Area, which is just across the street from the Convention Center, and a stop on the bus route. There are now even more fabrics and notions to capture your interest. Also included are booths featuring knitting, needlework, gift ideas, etc. Book SigningSaturday, March 6, 2010 - 1-2 p.m. Free Many of the 2010 teachers are published authors of quilt books, patterns and articles on quilting. They will be signing copies of their books on Saturday, March 6 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. in the Convention Center lobby. Copies of their books will be available for sale, or bring your own copies to be signed. Take advantage of this opportunity to meet these alented and creative quilters. Teachers' ShowcaseEach instructor will bring a quilt to illustrate her techniques and quilting style. These will be displayed in the lobby of the Convention Center. Many of these quilts are award winners and all of them will amaze you! Men’s AreaIHQS has an area reserved for men to sit an relax while you enjoy the show! VolunteersThis Quilt Show cannot operate without our wonderful volunteers. The Indiana Heritage Quilt Show is managed by people who put in countless hours to bring outstanding quilts from across the country. Volunteers are needed for various duties during the show. Please volunteer some of your time - a volunteer form is found on page 8 of the brochure or printable here. Contact volunteers@ihqs.org or call 317-407-2764 for more information. Thank you. Guild Donation QuiltsArea guilds will bring their member-made quilts to the show to raise money for their organizations. These gorgeous quilts will be in the lobby of the Convention Center. Buying a ticket will give you an opportunity to donate to a worthy cause as well as a chance to win one of these wonderful quilts. Stow-N-Go RoomIHQS will provide a free-of-charge checkroom where attendees can store large coats, jackets, packages, sewing machines and other items while visiting the show. Food ServiceA wide variety of food items will be available in the foyer between the Convention Center and the Courtyard by Marriott, hosted by Center Catering. Or, you can walk or take the bus to many of the fine food establishments available in downtown Bloomington. TransportationHours: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. A free bus will leave the Convention Center every half hour to take you to the museum exhibits. The pickup point is at the back entrance of the Convention Center. Ride Free. (Click the image above to view / print the Shuttle and Exhibit map from the Brochure) Other Quilt Related Exhibits(Brochure with most exhibits available here) Mathers Museum ExhibitExhibit on display from January 26-March 12, 2010 - Tues - Fri 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m and Sat 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Free The exhibit Contemporary by Design: The Works of Linda Gray, will be on display. The exhibit highlights many works by Gray, who was one of 44 artists selected to participate in the exhibit Quilts for Obama: Celebrating the Inauguration of our 44th President, presented during the inauguration by the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. The exhibit will showcase a variety of Gray’s pieces, many featuring beads and other embellishments. “My style has evolved over the years, going from rather traditional to very contemporary. I learned that adhering to strict rules was not comfortable for me,” notes Gray. “My subject matter changes with my mood; consequently, I have a wide variety of themes.” Gray explores those themes through her quilts and the poems she writes to accompany the quilts. Monroe County History Center ExhibitThe History Center will feature an exhibit called The Nine Lives of Quilts, which will encourage quilt care and conservation. Professional Quilter, Mindy Fletcher from Washington, IN will be available from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday the 6th to discuss the care and repair of quilts. The exhibit will also feature a beautiful Crazy Quilted Jacket from the Elizabeth Sage's Historic Costume Collection of Indiana University. This jacket was worn by Xenia Simons Miller of Columbus, IN, a well known philanthropist, and the late widow of J. Irwin Miller, a Patron of Architechture. Mrs. Miller constructed the piece from crazy quilts. The Monroe County History Center is accessible to people of all abilities and located at 202 E. 6th Street. It is on the bus route and FREE with IHQS wristband or hand stamp. The opening reception will be Friday, March 5th from 5-8 p.m. Gallery North is located in The Wicks Building at 116 W. 6th St. on the north side of the square in downtown Bloomington. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11-6. FREE. Visit the following link for more information - http://www.gallery-north.org WonderLab MuseumContemporary quilts by local artists on display with several related “science on the spot” activities that highlight the math and science of quilting. These include simple hands-on activities about chromatography, geometric patterning, and more. Adults, 18 and older, will receive free general admission with an IHQS wristband or stamp. General admission for others is $7/adult and $6/child (age 1-17). There is never an admission charge to shop in the museum gift store.
