Welcome to the 18th annual Indiana Heritage Quilt Show!

We have three full days of classes and over 300 quilts on display in the downtown Convention Center. Our Merchants’ Mall will be filled with tantalizing fabrics and must-have sewing notions.

Special Events

Special Exhibit

IIHQS is delighted to present a fresh and original collection of quilts based on the theme “Living Colour.” Forty-eight quilts interpreting the phrase, “Living Colour” will be on display. The quilters invited to participate in this project practice their art in the Pacific Northwest and western Canada. They are members of the Association of Pacific Northwest Quilters. (The spelling of “colour” was chosen to honor the Canadian members.)

Workshops

Are you a traditional quilter or is your passion contemporary work? Do you want to learn something new or improve your favorite techniques? Whatever your interest, we have the class for you. Study with our eight internationally renowned instructors who offer classes in a variety of techniques. Meet some of the country’s most talented and creative quilters. Our classes fill quickly, so send in your registration today! We’ll see you in class. Entry to show included when you sign up for a workshop.

Extended Merchants Area

More merchants have been added! Just across the street from the Convention Center and included on the bus route are even more vendors who offer fabulous fabrics and notions. Also included are vendors who offer crafting merchandise for knitting, needlework, gift items, and more.

Teacher Q&A Forum

Friday, March 6, 2009 - 6:00 p.m. (doors open)

Have you ever wondered how world renowned teachers got started? Or where they find inspiration? Or, perhaps you want to know their secrets to organization and time management. Join us for our Teacher Forum with Wendy Butler Berns, Cathie Hoover, and Paula Nadelstern to learn answers to questions posed by the audience. Always an interesting and humorous evening, we never know what to expect!

DISCOUNT: Receive a $2 discount for advance purchase. Forum tickets purchased by Feb.15 using the Workshop Registration Form are just $6 each. Tickets at the door will be $8.

Book Signing

Saturday, March 7, 2009 - 1-2 p.m. Free

Most of the 2009 teachers are published authors of quilt books, patterns and articles on quilting. They will be signing copies of their books on Saturday, March 7 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. in the Convention Center lobby. Copies of their books will be available for sale, or bring your own copies to be signed. Take advantage of this opportunity to meet these talented and creative quilters.

Teachers' Showcase

Each instructor will bring a quilt which illustrates her techniques and quilting style. These will be displayed in the lobby of the Convention Center. Some of these quilts are award winners and all will amaze you.

Volunteers

This Quilt Show cannot operate without volunteers. The Indiana Heritage Quilt Show is managed by people who put in countless hours to bring outstanding quilts from across the country. Volunteers are needed for white glove hosts, admissions, and merchandise sales during the show so that everyone can enjoy these wonderful quilts. Guild Donation Quilts

Area guilds will bring their member-made quilts to the show to raise money for their organizations. These gorgeous quilts will be in the lobby of the Convention Center. Buying a ticket will give you an opportunity to donate to a worthy cause as well as a chance to win one of these wonderful quilts.

Stow-N-Go Room

IHQS will provide a free-of-charge checkroom where attendees can store large coats, jackets, packages, sewing machines and other items while visiting the show.

Food Service

A wide variety of food items will be available in the foyer between the Convention Center and the Courtyard by Marriott, hosted by Center Catering. Or, you can walk or take the bus to many of the fine food establishments available in downtown Bloomington.

Transportation

Hours: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Travel around Bloomington in style and convenience. A free bus will leave the Convention Center every half hour to take you to the museum exhibits. The pickup point is at the back entrance of the Convention Center. Ride Free.

Wylie House Exhibit

Open March 5 - March 7, 2009 - 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Free

Built in 1835 as the home of Andrew Wylie, Indiana University’s first president, this stately brick house is now a museum recreating the early Wylie years. The exhibit will include quilts from the extensive Wylie House collection as well as others borrowed from friends of the museum. Both nineteenth and twentieth century quilts will be on display, and all will be traditional patterns, pieced and quilted by hand. This exhibit changes each year, so visitors will not see the same quilts as in previous years. Wylie House is located on the free bus route at 317 E. 2nd Street. Monroe County History Center Exhibit

The History Center will feature a national traveling exhibit; “Red & Green Study Quilts” from the American Quilt Study Group. The History Center is located at 202 E. 6th Street. Mathers Museum Exhibit

Open January 27 - March 13, 2009 - Tues - Fri 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m and Sat 1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Free

The Mathers Museum of World Cultures will continue its tradition of highlighting the works of local quilters in conjunction with the annual Indiana Heritage Quilt Show. In “Bee-Town Quilts: Charm Club Retrospective”the Museum will display the works of a regional quilting bee which was organized over two decades ago. The exhibit will highlight pieces made by Charm Club members that range from traditional to contemporary designs.

Gallery North

This gallery, located on the North side of the square, will have a fiber arts exhibit on display. Stop on bus route. Free. Located at 116 W. 6th St.

WonderLab Museum

Quilts related to science themes will be on display. Adults 18 and older will receive free general admission with an IHQS wristband or stamp. Stop on free bus route. Located at 308 W. 4th St. For more info visit the following link - http://www.wonderlab.org

Motor Coach/Tour Groups

The Indiana Heritage Quilt Show welcomes motorcoach groups. A minimum of 20 people will be given a discount, but you must call in advance to make arrangements. Call Rob at 800-800-0037.
