Fandango by Rachel Wetzler

One of the oldest ornamental motifs is the palmette-a stylized date-palm leaf. Interpreted in lively colors, the fan-shaped palmettes prompted the name "Fandango", meaning "Go and Dance". Inspired by a painted terracotta plaque, Italy , 4 th Century BC.

Source of Design: Original.

Made and Quilted By: Rachel Wetzler.

Mixed Technique Professional, Second Place

Prize Awarded - $200

Entry #1015 "Nautilus Mandala" Amy Bright Tucson, AZ

Nautilus Mandala by Amy Bright

Nautilus shells form in the same dimensions and divisions as the golden rectangle. I have long been fascinated by the balance between mathematical expressions and nature. The piecing and appliqué was done by hand, and the quilting was both by hand and machine.

Source of Design: Original.

Made and Quilted By: Amy Bright.

I won a Bernina Embroidery machine and wanted to use it in combination with quilting. I designed it to be a two-sided quilt. It took careful planning to arrange the designs on both sides to work out.

Source of Design: Original with embroidery designs "Designs by Petro".

Made and Quilted By: Renae Haddadin.
